SelectIt

SelectIt is a rare one on nightwares; it's actually a protected DXR rather than a conventional DIRfile. That's because it was developed on company time and I can't just give that sort of stuff away, alas. Well, not the source, anyway.

SelectIt is a multiple-file selection dialog box. You invoke it as you would any other MIAW and use it to select many files at once from many different locations for whatever your batch file processing needs may be. It wrote it because there's no ready way to do such a thing in Director and there may be some cases where it's desirable.

You can specify some of the elements of SelectIt's appearance, including colors, fonts, text, and UI content. It's not the prettiest thing in the explored universe and, if response is strong enough, I'll make it look a little better. But it does work, and it works pretty darn well. Besides, the price ain't so bad; free is usually worth it.

SelectIt has fairly complete online help. It comes with a stub launcher, launch.dir, which lets you get a feel right away for what SelectIt does (and doesn't). Run this one with the Message window open and use it to select a file or two; the online help will appear magically before your eyes, be they googly or not.

In order to use SelectIt you must have Kent Kersten's FileXtra.

Pick your poison; note the 6 and 7 versions are not intercompatible; the system specific versions are for purposes both of palette and compression issues, and yes, Mac folks, I know the Mac links point to zip files. If you have a decent browser that should not be a problem:

SelectIt for Director 6/Windows
SelectIt for Director 6/Mac

SelectIt for Director 7/Windows
SelectIt for Director 7/Mac

Each approximately 25 K
