On the creation, study and nature of avatars

What is an avatar?
An avatar is loosely defined, for this purpose, as any element or section of artificial life which can be taught, modified, changed, altered, expanded or otherwise made something other than what it started out being by individual users.
Where did the name come from?
Check out Peter Small's site on avatars for considerably more information on this theme.
What is available here?
I have two organelles and a minor system available at the moment:

1. Publish-learn: This organelle permits you to publish your own behaviors so other avatars may learn them; it is also capable of learning others' behaviors.

2. POP-client: A simple POP3 email client organelle. You must have the XtraNet Xtra (it's free) to use this client.

3. POP-client with Publish-learn included: A combination of the above two organelles, this minor system will permit you to do everything either one of the others can do all in one interface.

All are unprotected Director 7 format. The Publish-learn organelle is Shockwave-aware.

The POP client will not permit you to read email from within shockwave; you need to download it and run it with the XtraNet Xtra in place.

If you do not have Dir7 yet but are running Windows 9x or NT, click here to download a zipfile containing a projector you may use to run these avatar organelles.
